Psychological counselling

Therapy at Mood Psychology follows an integrative and client-centred approach, with an emphasis on working collaboratively with clients to address areas that are troubling them in the context of their life experiences. Treatment will vary for every person depending on what is going on in their lives and what they would like to work on. Initially, the psychologist will assess to see how the individual might benefit from psychological treatment and discuss potential therapy goals. If the client agrees, strategies will be established to help them make changes in their life that will improve their well-being.

The types of therapy that are available includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), & Psychodynamic Therapy, amongst others.

Assessments

Mood Psychology offers one primary assessment - the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2).

The ADOS-2 is a standardised assessment tool that helps assessors to diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in children and adults.

The assessment consists of a series of structured and semi-structured tasks that involve social interaction between the examiner and the individual undertaking the assessment. During this process, communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and repetitive behaviours are assessed.

A report will be provided in 3 weeks following assessment including diagnostic outcomes and recommendations for intervention, access to support services, and treatment planning.

A feedback session (an additional fee of $220) is available following the assessment and report. The feedback session is up to 50 minutes and will be an expanded discussion of the results and 'where to from here.'

The ADOS-2 is available at Mood Psychology for people aged 5 and up.
