How long is each session?
Each sessions last approximately 50 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your goals in therapy. This can be discussed in the initial session.

Where can I have sessions?
Face-to-face sessions are available at therapy rooms in Brunswick. Sessions are also available for clients Australia-wide via Zoom or phone.

What can I expect in my first session?
The first session generally involves discussing relevant background information that has brought you to therapy. This includes talking about life experiences, current difficulties, and goals for therapy.

What if I feel nervous about starting counselling?
It is completely normal and very common to be nervous about starting counselling. It can be hard to talk about personal challenges and issues especially talking about it for the first time. Therapy at Mood Psychology is warm, compassionate, non-judgmental, and is in a safe, comfortable space. Therapy occurs at your pace, and there is no pressure to talk about things you do not wish to.

What if it isn't the right fit?
Prior to beginning sessions, new clients will have an initial call to see if working with Darian is the right fit.
If you have any concerns during sessions or just feel that its not the right fit, Darian will be happy to support you in suggesting other community groups, psychologists or ways forward. -
How much does a session cost and is it possible to get a rebate?
The cost of a session is $220. A hardship rate may be available by individual arrangement.
If you have a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) you may be eligible for up to 10 Medicare rebated consultations in a calendar year. You will need to see your GP prior to your first appointment to apply for a MHCP. The Medicare rebate is $141.85 ($78.15 gap).
Private Health rebates are also available; however, the rebate amount differs dependent on your provider and level of cover. -
What is the autism assessment (ADOS-2) structure and how much does it cost?
The ADOS-2 consists of 2 sessions that occur for up to 2 hours each. The first session consists of a background interview with parents or carers (aged under 18) / the individual (aged over 18). The second session consists of the ADOS-2 assessment.
The ADOS-2 assessment costs $1800 which includes 2x session fees (background interview and assessment session), assessment scoring, and report writing. A rebate for each of these sessions may be available (2x $141.85) with a valid Mental Health Care Plan.
Following the assessment and report, a feedback session of up to 50 minutes is available for $220 which is an expanded discussion of the results and ‘where to from here.’
